At the heart of any great Japanese restaurant is a desire to provide exceptional service and an authentic dining experience. At Sakimoto Japanese Bistro, the menu and the daily specials use only the freshest, most delicious ingredients of the season. Each dish is skillfully prepared by our Japanese chefs to bring the signature flavours of Japan straight to your plate.
Since 2014, Sakimoto owner and head chef Seiji Shimizu has sought to revolutionise the way that people eat Japanese food in Christchurch. From local families to business people and tourists, he values every connection that Sakimoto makes with people from all walks of life. He strongly believes that Sakimoto is a restaurant where everyone can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.
Originally from Yokohama in Japan, Seiji Shimizu has now lived in Christchurch for 20 years. He opened his first restaurant in the city in 2003. He hopes to keep the ties strong between Japan and New Zealand by bringing people together to celebrate Japanese food.
